Ball State's baseball team improved to 13-7 overall and 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference with a 7-0 victory at Bowling Green in the first game of the three-game series Friday afternoon.

The two teams will play a double header Saturday at noon in Bowling Green, Ohio, instead of the usual Saturday and Sunday games due to impending weather.

Zach Plesac pitched a complete game three-hit shutout and struck out eight in the Cardinals' victory to even his record at 1-1 on the season.

Ball State rallied for four innings in the third before adding one in the fourth and one more in each the sixth and seventh innings to record the shutout.

With one out in the fourth, Elbert Devarie got the scoring started with a single to right field that scored Alex Call. Brandon Estep's sacrifice fly scored Jarett Rindfleisch and then Colin Brockhouse doubled down the left field line to score Sean Kennedy and Devarie and Ball State led 4-0.

Devarie's single to right field in the fourth inning scored Call to increase the Cardinals lead to 5-0. In the sixth inning, Ball State scored after a Ryan Spaulding double and a Rindfleisch single to score Spaulding. The Cardinals put up their final run in the seventh inning on a Spaulding single up the middle that scored Estep and gave Ball State its 7-0 lead.

Devarie, who leads the Cardinals in hitting, was 4-for-5 on the day with two runs-batted-in and one run scored. Kennedy was 3-for-5 with one run scored, while Brockhouse was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Spaulding and Rindfleisch each added two hits in the game.
