Ball State tallied a pair of wins over Bowling Green Saturday to improve to 15-7 overall and 3-0 in the Mid-American Conference.
In game one Saturday, Ball State tallied the 6-1 victory on the strength of a Scott Baker complete game, four hitter. With the win Baker improved to 2-3 on the season after striking out five and walking only one on the day.
The Cardinals fell behind 1-0 through three innings, but rallied for three in the top of the fourth and three more in the eight to seal the victory.
In the fourth inning, Jarett Rindfleisch, Elbert Devarie and Sean Kennedy all walked to load the bases for a Scott Tyler sacrifice fly that put the Cardinals ahead 1-0. Colin Brockhouse then tripled to right center field to score Kennedy and Devarie and Ball State led 3-0.
With two outs in the eighth inning, Devarie and Kennedy walked to set the stage for a Tyler three-run home run to right field that sealed the Cardinals' victory.
Tyler was 2-for-3 with four runs-batted-in in game one, while Brockhouse was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In game two, Ball State tallied a 5-2 win over the Falcons with B.J. Butler earning the pitching victory to improve to 2-2 on the year.
Brendan Burns started the game and pitched five innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out three. Butler threw the final four frames, allowing zero earned runs and striking out three.
The Cardinals led first at 2-0 through three before the Falcons added one run in the fourth and one more in the seventh to tie the game. Ball State rallied for three more in the eighth just as they did in game one Saturday to seal the victory.
Brockhouse singled to lead off the third inning and after Matt Eppers' sacrifice bunt moved him to second, Alex Maloney singled to put runners on first and third. Ryan Spaulding's RBI single through the left side of the infield scored Brockhouse. Call reached on a fielder's choice to score Maloney and the Cardinals led 2-0.
In the eighth, Rindfleisch singled to right and Devarie walked to put runners at first and second. Zach Plesac's RBI single through the left side scored Rindfleisch. Brockhouse tripled down the right field line scoring two and the game belonged to the Cardinals.
Maloney, Spaulding and Brockhouse each had two hits apiece and Brockhouse added two RBI and scored one run.
The Cardinals will host Purdue in a midweek game Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Ball Diamond in the First Merchants Ballpark Complex.
