October 24, 2015 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State (2-14, 0-4 MAC) field hockey team continued Mid-American Conference action at home when it took on Missouri State (6-10, 3-2 MAC) Saturday afternoon and fell 2-0 in the Bears fifth shutout of the season. The match also honored alumni of the field hockey program at halftime, acknowledging their contributions and continued support of the program.
The Cardinals and the Bears remained scoreless through nearly the first half, until Missouri State's Andrea Soler Codina scored her third goal of the season in the 30th minute on a breakaway opportunity at the net. Missouri State's Sydney Richelieu then finalized the score at 2-0 on a backhanded shot from the top of the circle in the 60th minute.
Back in net, junior goalkeeper Jordan Dues (Fallbrook, Calif./Fallbrook) suited up to make her 16th start of the season and faced eight attempted shots from the Bears.
The Cardinals marked three shots on goal over the course of the 70 minute matchup, including one from senior Bethany Han (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), junior Mikayla Mooney (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield School), and redshirt senior Bianca Velez (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellum/Beach Premiere). Missouri State matched the Cardinals with three shots on goal as well.
Penalty corner opportunities were sparse in the conference matchup, in which the Bears benefitted from just three attempts, while Ball State had two attempts at the top of the circle.
Up next, the Ball State field hockey team will round out regular season action at the Briner Sports Complex, in which they will welcome Central Michigan on Oct. 30 and Kent State on Nov. 1.
