Cross Country Logs Five Career-Bests At ND Invite

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - - The Ball State cross country team placed 22nd in the Women's 5K Gold Race at the 2014 Notre Dame Invitational Friday afternoon at the Notre Dame Golf Course.
Among the field of 216 competitors, senior Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) led Ball State's eight runners to the finish line, placing 71st overall with a career-best time of 18:02.0.
Western Michigan's Maria McDaniel was the top individual runner, with a time of 16:46.0, while Grand Valley State took the team title with a combined score of 56 points. Duquesne (123), Minnesota-Duluth (154), Pittsburgh (160) and Richmond (207) rounded out the top five teams.
Other notable team finishes include three Mid-American Conference programs in Central Michigan (8th / 248), Western Michigan (13th / 313) and Ball State (22nd / 652).
For the fourth consecutive race, senior Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) fell in line behind her twin sister in Ball State's results, placing 152nd in 18:52.0.
Also scoring in the meet for the Cardinals were junior Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) with a career-best time of 18:56.2 to place 155th, freshman Sarah Hoppes (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) with a career-best effort of 19:12.4 to place 167th and sophomore Ericka Rinehart (Angola, Ind./Angola) with a clocking of 19:20.5 to place 174th.
The Ball State cross country team will compete in its final tune-up before the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championships on Thursday, Oct. 16, when it hosts the Ball State Invitational at the Muncie Elks Country Club at 4 p.m.
