Offensive Flurry Leads Field Hockey Over Lindenwood

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team earned an 8-2 win its in 2012 home opener Sunday afternoon at the BSU Turf Field. Sophomore Tarel Teach (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) led the offensive attack for the Cardinals, scoring two goals.
"To win at home was really a source of pride for our team," said head coach Beth Maddox. "Tarel [Teach] attacked all day and had a great presence. She wanted to create options for her teammates and in turn created options for herself."
The Cardinals got on the board early with a goal from sophomore Bianca Velez (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E. Kellam) from freshman Bethany Han (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) in the third minute. Teach put one in the back of the goal just 2:06 later off a deflection. Senior Devon Bell (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) added her first goal of the season in the eighth minute to cap an early offensive flurry for the Cardinals. An own goal by Lindenwood gave the Cardinals the 4-0 lead after the first half.
Teach started the offense again for Ball State getting a goal just 2:37 in the half, beating the goalie for a clear shot. Sophomore Leanne Goldblatt scored her second goal of the season at the 45:43 mark. Freshman Natalie Jardell (Granville, Ohio/Granville) added her first goal of the season at the 62:35 mark off of a deflection. Sophomore Jenna Rosenberry (Manheim, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) scored the eight goal for the Cardinals with under three minutes remaining in the game.
Maddi Elliott (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) was credited with her first collegiate win.
The Lions were led by Emily Stephens who chipped in two goals. Goalkeeper Victoria Gil made six saves and had eight goals against.
Ball State outshot Lindenwood 18-5 and held the advantage in penalty corners, 16-2. Teach led the game in shots with seven.
