Ball State Enters 2012 MAC Championships Thursday

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's swimming & diving team returns to action Thursday when it opens competition in the 2012 Mid-American Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Miami at Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
The 2012 three-day meet (Thursday-Saturday) features Ball State, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Evansville, host Miami, Missouri State and Southern Illinois. Action in the meet begins 11 a.m. Thursday, with prelims in the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 1-meter diving. Finals begin 6 p.m. Thursday evening with the 200 freestyle relay.
Ball State heads into the meet after falling to the Salukis, 146-91, Friday, Feb. 3 at Lewellen Aquatic Center, with three Cardinals collecting a pair of individual event victories.
Senior Casey Schroeder (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial) posted victories in the 50 free (a season-best 21.26) and the 100 free (47.22), while classmate Chris Krupa (Indianapolis/Pike) added a first-place performance in the 200 IM (1:55.43).
Senior swimmer Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) added a win in the 100 breast with a time of 58.49, while sophomore Jake Brehmer (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) rounded out the Cardinals' top finishers on the 3-meter board (221.17) and 1-meter board (263.93).
Krupa and McNeeley stand as two of BSU's top-ranked swimmers as Krupa ranks third in the 200 fly (1:51.39) and fifth in the 100 fly (50:16), while McNeeley ranks third in the 100 breast (57.68) and sixth in the 200 breast (2:06.20).
Schroeder also holds the No. 9 slot in the 50 free (21.26) and the No. 10 spot in the 100 free (2:10.94), while junior Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) stands at ninth in the 100 back (51.54) and 10th in the 200 back (1:53.98).
The Cardinals' Nicholas Stevens (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle), Andrew Lamb (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood), Andrew Hostetler (Vincennes, Ind./Jasper) and Cameron Watters (Daleville, Ind./Yorktown) own the top-four spots in the league in the 1000 free, respectively.
Brehmer leads the team from the boards, ranking 10th on the 1-meter (264.82) and eighth on the 3-meter (293.47).
