Men?s S&D Welcomes Miami Saturday at Lewellen

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's swimming & diving team welcomes Mid-American Conference opponent Miami to Lewellen Aquatic Center in a meet Saturday afternoon starting at 1:30 p.m.
Ball State enters weekend action after earning the Butler Invitational title Sunday in Indianapolis at HRC Pool with a score of 730 after defeating Xavier (697) and Valparaiso (229) during the one-day event.
The Cardinals posted their first victory in the 100 back, as junior Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) clocked in with a time of 51.83, followed by sophomore Joseph Morris' (South Bend, Ind./Clay) first-place performance in the 100 breast (57.96).
Then, sophomore Drew Tharp (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial) picked up a win in the 200 fly (1:51.86), and Weber returned in the 50 free, clocking in at 21.51.
To secure Ball State's sixth victory of the meet, senior Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) captured a first-place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:09.68 and classmate Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) posted a victory in the 100 fly with a season-best time of 50.16
On the diving boards, sophomore Jake Brehmer (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) tallied a victory on the 1-meter (229.25) and 3-meter (264.10) boards, respectively.
For his performance during the Butler Invitational, one week after helping Ball State defeat Eastern Illinois, 181-87, Weber earned MAC Men's Swimmer of the Week honors. He posted the Cardinals' first victory in the 100 back with a time of 51.83 and added a win in the 50 free, clocking in at 21.51.
He also added a second-place finish in the 200 back (1:53.48) and joined Krupa, McNeeley and Casey Schroeder (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial) on the second-place 200 medley relay to clock in at 1:36.30.
Versus the Redbirds Friday, Jan. 13, Weber combined with McNeeley, Krupa and Schroeder to help BSU tally its first victory in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:34.54. Weber then tallied first-place finishes in the 100 back (52.72) and 200 back (1:56.86).
Under the guidance of 27-year head coach Pete Lindsay, Miami enters weekend action after falling to Cleveland State (179-120) Friday, Jan. 20 and Buffalo (165-127) Saturday, Jan. 21.
