
Field Hockey Falls to Rider, 9-3

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Freshmen Sanne Hermans (The Hague, Holland) and Charlie Digby (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) scored their first career goals, but the Ball State field hockey team fell to non-conference opponent Rider, 9-3, Saturday afternoon at Tyler's Field.
The Broncs outshot the Cardinals, 20-18, and capitalized on 9-of-17 shots on goal.
At 15:03 mark, Rider's Sandra Penas tallied the first goal of the day on a shot to the left post past Ball State goalkeeper Chelsea Mitchell (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico).
At 31:17 mark, Hermans put the Cardinals on the board with a shot just in front of the Broncs' netminder Rebecca Lotito. Senior forward Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) provided the assist for BSU.
Ball State came back at 63:45 mark when Digby hit the open net from the left side past goalkeeper Rachel Sload and Hermans tallied the assist. Less than five minutes later, Kuhn tapped in a shot off a deflection in the circle to score the Cardinals' third and final goal of the contest.
The communication studies major finished with 11 shots on the day, while Hermans tallied two. Mitchell and freshman Haley Fusting (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) split 70 minutes of action in the cage after combining for eight saves.
