
Field Hockey Shutout by Colgate, 3-0

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Ball State field hockey team fell to Colgate, 3-0, Friday evening at Tyler's Field. The Cardinals outshot the Raiders, 17-13, however their opponent connected on 3-of-8 shots on goal.
Colgate (1-0) paced the contest, tallying five shots and two penalty corners before halftime. Ball State (0-1) was unable to come away with a goal, however senior forward Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) finished with eight shots.
At 14:30 mark, the Raiders' Olivia Nabhan scored the first goal off a rebound past the Cardinals' goalkeeper Chelsea Mitchell (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico).
Early in the second period at 41:09 mark, Nabhan tallied her second goal of the contest with a shot into the top left corner. Halle Biggar recorded the assist for Colgate.
Less than five minutes later, the Raiders closed out the scoring as Biggar netted a shot at the left post to seal the 3-0 win.
Mitchell finished with four saves in the cage while senior defender Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) recorded a defensive save.

Head coach Beth Maddox and the squad opens the home portion of the 2011 season Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the BSU Turf Field against Northwestern at 3 p.m. The Cardinals have tallied an all-time record of 47-59 (.443) at BSU Turf Field in Muncie, Ind. since the facility opened Sept. 12, 1998.
