Men's S&D Opens MAC Championships Thursday

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Led by its five-member senior class, the Ball State men's swimming & diving team returns to the pool Thursday, when it open competition in the 2011 Mid-American Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships hosted by Southern Illinois at the Student Recreation Center Pool March 3-5.
Action in the three-day meet begins at Noon (CT) Thursday, with prelims in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and one-meter diving. Finals being at 7 p.m. (CT) Thursday night, starting with the 200 freestyle relay.
This year's three-day meet (Thursday - Saturday) features Ball State, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Evansville, Miami, Missouri State and host Southern Illinois.
Junior Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) is BSU's top-ranked swimmer entering the championships, holding the No. 8 slot in the 100 breaststroke (58.81) and the No. 13 spot in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.94).
Classmate Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.) enters the meet ranked in the top 10 in four events; 10th in the 200 butterfly (1:54.19), 12th in the 100 butterfly (50.74), 12th in the 200 IM (1:56.26) and 15th in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.50).
Mark Golden (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park H.S.) leads the Cardinals' senior swimmers, ranking 12th in the 1650 freestyle (16:46.76) and 18th in the 1000 freestyle (10:02.44).
Senior diver Jeremy Whited (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) leads the team from the boards, ranking 13th on the one-meter (283.30) and 17th on the three-meter (248.65).
