
Cross Country Places Second At Sycamore Pride 5K

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - - The Ball State cross country team placed four runners in the top 20 to earn second place at Friday's Sycamore Pride 5K race hosted by Indiana State.
Illinois won the meet with a total of 25 points, with five of the top seven runners coming from its squad. BSU placed second with 65 points, followed by Indiana State (85), an Indiana State Alumni squad (110), St. Mary-Of-The- Woods (126) and Brescia (176).
Leading the way for the Cardinals was senior Kelsey Nielsen, who turned in a time of 19:28 to place ninth in the 44-runner field.
Redshirt sophomore Madeline Goheen turned in an 11th-place clocking of 19:31 for the Cardinals, while sophomore teammate MaryKate Mellen finished in 12th with the same time. Rounding out BSU's scored runners were redshirt sophomore Christine Talhelm (15th / 20:02) and senior Brittany Ade (18th / 20:13).
Also competing in the race for the Cardinals were freshman Tiffany Cange (22nd / 20:47), sophomore Allison Blanck (23rd / 20:49) and freshman Esther Tirado (28th / 21:33).
The Cardinals compete in their third of five pre-conference meet races next Friday, when they travel to West Lafayette for the second time this season to compete in the Indiana Intercollegiates. Race time is set for 3:30 p.m.
