
Cross Country Places Sixth At Indiana Intercollegiates

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - - In a field which featured most of the top runners in the state of Indiana, the Ball State cross country team placed sixth among 20 teams at the 2010 Indiana Intercollegiates hosted by Purdue. The meet was open to all colleges and universities in the state of Indiana.
Ball State senior Ali Bishel led the Ball State effort with a third-place time of 17:42.10. Sophomore MaryKate Mellen was BSU's next-best runner, placing 40th overall among 179 runners in the race with a clocking of 19:10.80.
Indiana won the meet with 26 points, with a squad featuring seven of the races' top 15 runners, including the winner and second-place performer. Butler placed second with 53 points, and was followed by Purdue (75), Indiana State (129), IPFW (158), BSU(166), Evansville (227), IUPUI (249), Manchester (284), DePauw (310), Indianapolis (313), Indiana Tech (336), Huntington (391), Taylor (427), Franklin (429), Hanover (445), Goshen (521), Anderson (564), Earlham (606), Indiana East (628).
Rounding out Ball State's top five runners in the meet were fifth-year senior Kelsey Nielsen (42nd overall; 19:11.60), redshirt sophomore Madeline Goheen (45th overall; 19:14.70) and fifth-year senior Brittany Ade (52nd overall; 19:32.80).
The Ball State women's cross country team returns to action Friday, Oct. 1, when it travels to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational which is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
