Women?s Swimming & Diving Completes 2010-11 Signing Class

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's swimming & diving head coach Laura Seibold-Caudill has announced the signing of seven student-athletes to national letters of intent for the 2010-11 season. Joining the Cardinals will be Jacqueline Iglesias (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora), Cheyanne Jackson (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights), Mallory Miles (Holland, Ind./Southridge H.S.), Haley Richter (Roanoke, Ind./Columbia City), Bridgett Ruehl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell), Stacey Wierman (Munster, Ind./Munster) and Emily Wisolek (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge).
"We are really excited to add these outstanding student-athletes to the Ball State swimming & diving family," said Seibold-Caudill. "Each recruit has the ability to come in and make an immediate impact in the pool. This is a special class, and represents a lot of hard work from myself and graduate assistant coach Mike Kerr."
Jacqueline Iglesias recently completed her senior season at West Aurora High School for coach Joe Neukirch. At the 2009 Illinois High School State meet, Iglesias placed eighth in the 100 backstroke (58.08) and 11th in the 200 individual medley (2:09.22). Iglesias' time in the 100 backstroke finals was a career-best effort, while her time of 2:07.17 in the 200 individual medley prelims as a career-fast swim.
In addition to her high school career, Inglesias swam for the Academy Bullets club team which is coached by Todd Capen. Capen is the husband of the former Kelly Halleckson who was a graduate assistant coach for the Ball State women's swimming and diving team from 2000-02.
"Our one out of state signee will hit Indiana hard in her backstroke and IM events starting next fall," said Seibold-Caudill. "Jackie is a team player with a successful high school background which will make for a smooth transition to the collegiate level."
Cheyanne Jackson is in her senior season at Hamilton Heights High School for coaches Lindsey Lawson, who was a one-year letterwinner for the Ball State women's swimming & diving program in 2002-03, and Todd Jones. At the 2009-10 Carmel High School sectional meet, Jackson placed fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:08.83) and seventh in the 100 backstroke (59.49), while joining the fourth place 200 medley (1:55.97) and 400 freestyle (3:47.15) relays.
At the 2010 IHSAA State meet, Jackson placed 15th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:11.04, after posting a clocking of 5:06.85 in the prelims. An all-conference and all-county selection, Jackson placed eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:09.87) and 15th in the 200 freestyle (1:57.83) at the 2009 Indiana state meet.
Jackson entered her senior year with six school records (50 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay), as well as nine conference championships. At the 2009 Senior State meet, Jackson placed eighth in the 500 freestyle, while earning seventh in the event at the 2008 IHSAA state meet.
"Cheyanne will provide our team with needed support in our distance freestyle events," said Seibold-Caudill. "Not only does she have the personality to fit in with our team, she also has an extreme work ethic that will continue to place her in the position to drop time."
Mallory Miles is in her senior season at Southridge High School for coaches Matt Widolff and Alyssa Spinner. A four-time state qualifier in the 100 backstroke and a three-time qualifier in the 200 individual medley, Miles placed seventh in both events her sophomore season. At the 2010 state meet, Miles placed sixth in the 100 backstroke (56.64) and 11th in the 100 butterfly (57.04).
A two-time team captain, Miles has been the team Most Valuable Performer for the past three seasons. The school record-holder in five events, Miles also owns the Pocket Athletic Conference and sectional record in the 200 individual medley. In addition to high school, Miles has had a very successful club career for the Southridge Aquatic Raider Gators, including earning All-America status in the 100 back.
A 33-time medalist in Age Group Swimming, Miles has qualified for both the junior and senior nationals (short course) in the backstroke. In March of 2008, she placed third in the Indiana Senior State Championships in the 100 back. She also swam in the Mutual of Omaha Grand Prix Meet in June of 2008.
"Mallory is an awesome addition to our program at Ball State," said Seibold-Caudill. "She will be a tremendous asset to the team in the backstroke, butterfly and individual medley events."
Haley Richter is in her senior season at Columbia City High School for coach Phil Stanczak. A three-sport athlete for the Eagles, Richter is a state qualifier in the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. At the 2009-10 Warsaw Community High School sectional meet, Richter placed first in the 100 butterfly (57.06) and second in the 100 backstroke (56.88), and was a member of the third-place 200 freestyle relay (1:49.19) and the sixth-place 200 medley relay (2:00.59).
At the 2010 IHSAA state meet, Richter placed fifth in the 100 butterfly (56.43) and 12th in the 100 backstroke (57.92). One year earlier at the 2009 state meet, Richter place 11th in the 100 freestyle (52.91) and 17th in the 100 backstroke (58.84).
A school record-holder in six events, Richter has been named the team's MVP in each of her first three seasons. She is also a junior national qualifier in the 100 and 200 backstroke, as well as the 100 butterfly. Over her career, Richter has set personal-best times in the 100 backstroke (57.97), 200 backstroke (2:05.92), 200 freestyle (1:56.19), 100 butterfly (56.70) and 200 butterfly (2:11.03).
"We are very excited to bring such a well rounded athlete and person onto our roster," said Seibold-Caudill. "Her contributions in the back and fly events will make an immediate impact on our team next year. Haley is a very mature young woman and we will be looking for her to be a young leader on our team."
Bridgett Ruehl is in her senior season at Lowell High School for coach John Krick. Last weekend, Ruehl won the Crown Point High School sectional title in the 200 individual medley (2:10.63), while placing second behind fellow recruit Wierman in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.00. Ruehl was also a member of the third-place 200 freestyle (1:46.88) and fourth-place 200 medley (1:51.06) relays.
At the 2010 IHSAA state meet, Ruehl placed sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.51), 15th in the 200 individual medley (2:10.21) and was a member of the 19th-place 200 medley relay (1:51.42). As a junior, Ruehl placed seventh in the 100 breaststroke at the 2009 state meet with a time of 1:05.43.
This past December, Ruehl competed in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at the USA Junior Nationals meet in Columbus, Ohio. In July of 2009, she places sixth in the 100 meter breaststroke at the Indiana Senior State Meet, after competing in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes at the USA Sectional Championships.
"We cannot wait to get Bridgette into our waters next year," said Seibold-Caudill. "Her level of commitment and enthusiasm to the sport of swimming is rarely matched and we expect her to continue to drop time in her breaststroke and IM events."
Stacey Wierman is in her senior season at Munster High School for coach Terry Specyal. An eight-time state qualifier, Wierman helped guide Munster to the 2009-10 Crown Point sectional title by capturing championships in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.58), 200 medley relay (1:45.33), 200 freestyle relay (1:36.45) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:31.63).
At the 2010 IHSAA state meet, Wierman led Munster's relays to three top-four performances. She was a member of the second-place 200 medley relay (1:45.49), third-place 400 freestyle relay (3:29.86) and fourth-place 200 freestyle relay (1:36.31). As an individual, she placed 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.28). A 2008-09 sectional champion in the 100 breaststroke, Wierman went on to place 21st at the 2009 state meet with a time of 1:08.06.
A three-time all-American, twice in the 200 medley relay and once in the 400 freestyle relay, Wierman has been named the team captain for the past two seasons. She was also a member of the 400 freestyle relay which set the sectional pool record in 2008-09. Wierman has also been a member of the Munster Swim Club and has swum for the Seahorses for the past nine years.
"We are looking forward to bringing Stacey to campus next year," said Seibold-Caudill. "She has improved tremendously in her breaststroke events and we are anticipating her instant contribution to our team. Stacey is a wonderful person, who without a doubt will bring much more than fast times to our program."
Emily Wisolek is in her second season as a member of the Northridge High School swimming program for coach Joe Keller, who was a four-year letterwinner for the Ball State men's swimming and diving program from 1987-88 through 1990-91. A first team all-conference selection as a junior, Wisolek holds three school records and three pool records at Northridge. Last weekend, Wisolek helped lead Northridge to the Concord High School sectional title by placing first in the 500 freestyle (5:05.63) and second in the 200 freestyle (1:55.51). She was also a member of the sectional champion 200 freestyle (1:40.16) and 400 freestyle (3:36.73) relays.
At the 2010 IHSAA state meet, Wisolek placed seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:52.95) and 16th in the 500 freestyle (5:11.48), while hold a spot on the eighth-place 400 freestyle relay (3:35.44) and the 15th-place 200 freestyle relay (1:40.44). At the 2009 state meet, Wisolek placed 19th in the 200 freestyle (1:55.72) and 28th in the 50 freestyle (54.27), while swimming on the 13th-place 400 freestyle relay and the 17th-place 200 freestyle relay.
Prior to transferring to Northridge, Wisolek earned two letters for coach Jon Cook at Elkhart Memorial High School. At Elkhart, Wisolek was a four-time Northern Lakes Conference champion and a three-time sectional champion. She also set nine school records and was the team MVP as a sophomore. In club swimming, Wisolek is a 25-time state medalist. At the 2008 Senior State meet, she was the 200 freestyle champions, placed third overall and qualified for the junior nationals in three events.
"We feel very lucky to be bringing in such a talented young athlete in Emily Wisolek," said Seibold-Caudill. "We expect her to come in her freshman year hungry and ready to make a name for herself as a BSU Cardinal. Emily will be a freestyle specialist who we know will always be looking to push her limits."
