
Cross Country Takes 10th At MAC Championships

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - - The Ball State women's cross country team turned in an average 6K time of 22:57.2 to place 10th overall among 12 teams at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Western Michigan at the Pine View Golf Club Saturday afternoon.
Toledo won the meet with 44 points and an average time of 21:04.9 for its five scored runners, including a first-place effort from Air Fisher who won her second consecutive MAC title by crossing the finish line in 20:05.8.
Central Michigan placed second with 67 points, followed by Miami (69), Ohio (89), Eastern Michigan (157), Western Michigan (159), Akron (187), Bowling Green (235), Kent State (254), BSU (274), Buffalo (276) and Northern Illinois (323).
The Cardinals were led in the meet by a pair of fifth-year seniors. For the fourth time this season, Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) led the Cardinals with a season-best 6K time of 21:37.7 to place 19th overall among the 105 runners in the field.
Fellow fifth-year senior Kelsey Nielsen (Bremen, Ind./Bremen H.S.) was BSU's second-best runner, clocking a time of 22:57.3 to place 55th overall.
Rounding out BSU's scored runners were redshirt sophomore Madeline Goheen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger H.S.) with a 59th-place time of 23:03.4, sophomore MaryKate Mellen (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) in 70th with a time of 23:32.7 and redshirt sophomore Christine Talhelm (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central H.S.) in 71st with a time of 23.34.7.
Fifth-year senior Brittany Ade (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger H.S.) and freshman Tiffany Cange (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville H.S.) placed 74th (23:42.) and 82nd (24.23.3), respectively, for the Cardinals.
Also running for BSU but not placing were freshman Esther Tirado (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson H.S.) with a time of 24:43.0 and sophomore Allison Blanck (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central H.S.) with a time of 24:44.7.
Select members of the Ball State cross country squad will return to action Nov. 13 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Oakland Michigan, where they will have a change to advance to the NCAA Championships which will be run Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
