
Women?s Swimming Ties with Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Ball State men's and women's swimming and diving team competed at Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at the Charles McCaffree Pool. The women broke even with the Spartans ending the day with a tie after scoring a total of 150 total points. The men fell to MSU 196 to 137.
Senior Brittany Sayler (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont) managed to be the first Cardinal to earn a top finish on the day in the 100 back with a time of 58.75.
Freshman Emily Hurst (Zionsville, Ind. /North Central) and teammate junior Addison Del Rio (Munster, Ind. /Munster) went one-two respectively in the 100 breast. Hurst clocked in a time of 1:06.64 while Del Rio finished with a time of 1:06.92. Hurst was also a winner in the 200 breast.
Sophomore Megan Ploetz (Mount Vernon, Ind./Castle) captured first in the 200 fly (2:08.37) and fellow Cardinal senior Adam Konopka (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) earned the win for the men in that same event with a time of 1:57.46.
Junior Michelle Huang (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) swam her way to a top time of 24.71 to win the 50 free. Freshman Ben Battjes (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) won the 50 free for the men (21.72).
Huang went on to win the 100 free while Sayler took first in the 200 back and the 200 IM.
Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week freshman Ben Karwoski (Bluffton, Ind./Bluffton) earned first place in the 500 free (4:44.78).
The women ended the day strong with a win in the 400 free relay.
Ball State will begin competing again on Jan. 13 at home against Eastern Michigan. The meet will start at 1 pm at Lewellen Aquatic Center.
