Swimming & Diving Has Strong Showing at Indiana Intercollegiate

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Ball State University men's and women's swimming & diving team placed third and second respectively at the Indiana Intercollegiate on Saturday (Oct. 14). The event was hosted by Purdue University.
The Cardinal women finished right behind host purdue while the men came in third.
In the 24-event format the BSU women started with a top two finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The foursome of Katie Jasmon, Addison Del Rio, Erin Johnson and Michelle Huang collected a team best time of 1:51.19. The men clocked in a time of 1:39.01, which was good for third. The men's relay was made up of Brett Pettit, Ryan Franklin, Jacob Morris and Ben Battjes.
In the individual heats Meghan Patterson placed ninth in the 200 yard free (2:00.94). True freshman Ben Karwoski was the top finisher for the Cards in the 200 free after placing eighth (1:46.95).
Huang took fourth in the 50 free (24.72). Ball State also had four swimmers who made their marks in spots nine through 12. Battjes was eighth on the men's side with a time of 22.11.
In the 200 yard IM Brittany Saylor managed a fifth place showing (2:11.30) and classmate Adam Konopka came in at the number 15 slot.
Erika Paul clocked in a time of 59.11 in the 100 fly, which was good for fifth.
Huang swam for a fourth place finish in the 100 free (53.60).
Sayler topped out at third in the 100 back (59.53) while teammate Pettit took fifth (55.05) for the men.
In the 500 yard free Patterson was seventh (5:18.27) but Kyle Hembree took the fourth spot in the event after clocking in a time of 4:47.08.
Del Rio was fifth in the 100 breast before the Cardinal women ended the day on a high note with their second top two-relay finish of the day in the 200 free. BSU quartet Kelly Johnson, Paul, Chelsea Anderson and Saylor had a time of 1:39.30.
Ball State continues action at home on Friday (Oct. 27) against Buffalo. The meet is set to begin at 5 pm in Lewellen Aquatic Center.
