
Women's Swimming and Diving Earns Win Over Buffalo

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State University men's and women's swimming and diving team hosted its first Mid-American Conference dual meet of the season against the University of Buffalo, Friday (Oct. 27). The Cardinal women managed to pull off a 155-88 victory but the men fell to the Bulls 137-106. The win for the women marks the second straight victory over the last two years.
To get the meet started senior Brittany Sayler (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont), junior Addison Del Rio (Munster, Ind./Munster), senior Erin Johnson (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) and freshman Kelly Johnson (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) took first place in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.45.
Sayler took top honors in the 50 free (25.05) while junior Michelle Huang (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Central) earned a top finish in the 100 free (53.36) and in the 200 free (1:57.04).
Sophomore Meghan Patterson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) won the 500 free (5:15.39).
Freshman Mary Ehresman (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) and senior Mary Brinkoetter (Decatur, Ill./Saint Teresa) went one-two in the 1000 free, posting a 10:42.85 and 10:52.29 respectively.
Sayler captured first in the 200 back (2:07.43) while teammate Brinkoetter finished second with a time of 2:08.99.
Other top finishers for the Cardinals were Bekah Gingerich (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) in the 200 breast, Megan Ploetz (Mount Vernon, Ind./Castle) in the 200 fly and Emily Hurst (Zionsville, Ind./North Central) who won the 200 IM.
The men struggled in its opening relay but bounced back in the 1000 free after sophomore Kyle Hembree (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) topped out at first after clocking a time of 9:51.30.
Freshman Ben Karwoski (Bluffton, Ind./Bluffton) earned first place in the 200 free (1:45.20). Junior Tyler McQuiston (Walton, Ind./Lewis Cass) and freshman Ben Battjes (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) went one-two in the 50 free, clocking times of 21.83 and 21.97 respectively.
Senior Adam Konopka (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) took first in the 200 back (2:01.05) and classmate Zach Whitaker (Coatesville, Ind./North Putnam) took top honors in the 1-meter dive with a score of 268.50.
The women will be back in action at home on Saturday (Oct. 28) against Akron. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 pm in the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
