BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Samuel Harris finished in 30th place among 88 golfers on Sunday afternoon, to lead Ball State through 72 holes in the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational, conducted at IU's Pfau Golf Course.
Harris (77-74-75---226)Â paced the Cardinals from start to finish in the two-day event, firing 77 in his opening round and improving to 74 and 75 in two subsequent trips around the par-71, 7,355-yard track. He was in 40th place when second-round play was suspended late Saturday evening, and he rose 10 spots on the final day of competition.
The freshman from a just south of Bloomington opened Sunday's play with bogeys on his first two holes following the suspension. He birdied the par-5 13th hole to close round two and finish at 3-over par. In his final trip around the course, Harris birdied No. 14 and was 2-under through nine holes, but six bogeys down the stretch pushed his card to 4-over 75 at the end of the day.
Playing as an individual in this event, senior Carter Smith carded a +6 round on Sunday, with Happy Gilmore and Avery Mahoney both at +7.
The Cardinals regroup next week, prior to the Mid-American Conference Championship, May 2-4, at Holliday Farms Golf Club in Zionsville.
