Softball Falls in Series Finale to Western Michigan

MUNCIE, Ind. - - On a picturesque Sunday afternoon at the Ball State Softball Stadium, the Ball State softball team closed its three-game series versus Western Michigan with a 13-3 (5) setback.

While the Broncos (21-19; 10-8 MAC) jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage, the Cardinals (15-23; 3-15 MAC) were able to cut the lead in half thanks to a two-run RBI single to left-center field from sophomore second baseman Addison Zimpleman in the bottom of the third.

Unfortunately, Western Michigan countered with seven runs in the top of the fourth and two more in the fifth to take control of the game.

Ball State would get its final run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI ground out from redshirt junior third baseman / catcher Skylinn Pogue.

While the Cardinals only managed three runs in the contest, they were able to register eight hits in the outing, with two each from junior shortstop Maia Pietrzak and senior designated player / pitcher Ella Whitney.

The Ball State softball team will step outside of league play for the final time this season Wednesday, when it hosts Indiana State at 4 p.m.
