Softball Completes Season Sweep of IU Indy

INDIANAPOLIS - - The Ball State softball team completed a three-game season sweep of IU Indy Tuesday afternoon, earning a 13-4 (5) victory at the IU Indy Softball Complex.

The Cardinals (14-15) topped the Jaguars (4-26) twice Hilltopper Spring Fling earlier in the season, earning a 2-1 (8) win on Feb. 27 and a 12-4 (5) victory Feb. 28.

In third meeting of the season, Ball State scored in all five innings, highlighted by a five-run third inning. In fact, the Cardinals tallied a season-high 16 total hits led by three each from junior shortstop Maia Pietrzak and redshirt sophomore catcher Allee Noble.

Overall, 10 different Cardinals registered at least one hit in the game, while eight scores at least one run and seven were credited with at least one RBI.

Redshirt junior third baseman Skylinn Pogue scored the game's first run on an RBI single in the first inning from senior left fielder Ashlee Lovett and finished the day with a team-high three runs scored.

Senior designated player Ella Whitney led the squad with three RBI, with two coming on a second-inning double and another on a fielder's choice in the five-run third.

Redshirt junior Bridie Murphy picked up the win in the circle, improving to 3-3 on the season after holding the Jaguars to five hits and one runs over her 3.1 innings of work. She also struck out three of the 16 batters she faced in the game.

The Ball State softball team returns to action Friday when it opens a three-game homestand versus Ohio with a 3 p.m. first pitch. The Cardinals and Bobcats are also currently scheduled to play a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at the Ball State Softball Stadium.
