Ball State Women’s Tennis Drops MAC Opener at Buffalo
March 13, 2026 | Women's Tennis
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Ball State women's tennis team (7-5, 0-1 MAC) opened Mid-American Conference (MAC) play with a 6-1 loss to the defending conference champion University at Buffalo on Friday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center.
"It was a hard-fought match today, and I give a lot of credit to Buffalo," Ball State head women's tennis coach Sachin Kirtane said. "They played better than us on the big points, especially during a very tight doubles session. With three matches going to three sets, we certainly had our opportunities. I'm proud of the way the girls competed and gave themselves a chance to win, but we just came up short. We'll look to bounce back the next time we step foot on the court."
The Bulls (11-4, 1-0 MAC) secured an early lead by clinching the doubles point. Buffalo's Blanca Berges and Liv Roestel earned a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 position, followed by a 7-5 win from Esmee Andresen and Maria Glowacka at the No. 1 spot to take a 1-0 advantage.
The Bulls padded their lead early in singles play, picking up straight-set wins on courts one and two before clinching the overall match at the sixth position. Despite the eventual margin, it was a hard-fought contest, as two-thirds of the singles matches required a deciding third set. The Cardinals' lone bright spot was Priyanka Rana, who outlasted Maria Glowacka at No. 3 singles in a tight three-set battle (6-4, 5-7, 7-6).
Ball State returns to action on Sunday, March 22, when they host the University of Massachusetts at 12:00 p.m. ET at the First Serve Tennis Center or the Foster Adams Tennis Complex and Bill Richards Tennis Courts, weather permitting.
