Field Hockey Falls to Cal in Last West Coast Contest
September 07, 2025 | Field Hockey
BERKLEY, Calif. - The Ball State field hockey team (1-4) returns home after playing three competitive contests out west as the Cardinals wrapped up action at Cal (3-2) Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 loss at Underhill Field.Â
Â
The three-hour time difference and the plane trip out west gave Ball State a run for their money. Despite the disadvantages of travel the Cardinals turned in a strong defensive showing against the Cal Golden Bears throughout the 60-minute duration of today's contest.Â
Â
Cal scored back-to-back goals in the first period to take a quick 2-0 lead over Ball State. The Cardinals were able to hold the Golden Bears scoreless in the second period which gave the Cardinals hope to come back after intermission.Â
Â
Unfortunately, Cal tacked on another score after the break to extend its edge to 3-0 over BSU. The Cardinals answered ramping up their defense once again holding the Golden Bears scoreless the remainder of the contest.Â
Â
But despite the Cardinals defensive efforts, offensively Ball State struggled with only one shot attempt the entire contest.Â
Â
BSU goalie Cali Hyman faced 19 shots and had three saves.Â
Â
The Ball State field hockey team returns home on Friday, Sept. 12 against Saint Francis University at 1 pm ET in the Briner Sports Complex. The Cardinals will also host Lock Haven on Sunday at 11 am ET for Community Day.
