
Field Hockey Suffers 6-0 Setback at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - The Ball State field hockey team (1-2) dropped a 6-0 decision to Stanford (2-1) Thursday afternoon at the Varsity Field Hockey Turf.Â

Ball State put on one of its best defensive displays thus far this season, as the Cardinals held Stanford scoreless throughout the opening 10 minutes of action. The stat line was similar for both, as Stanford had five shots and Ball State finished the first quarter with four attempts.Â

The first goal came at the 20:45 mark of the second frame when Stanfords' Kate Nemec found the back of the cage. Stanford tacked on another score minutes later to take the 2-0 edge over Ball State at the break.Â

After intermission, Stanford managed to chip in two more goals in the third period to go up 4-0. Ball State began to get aggressive with its offense in the final stanza firing off five shots while drawing two corners.Â

Unfortunately, the Cardinals missed out on some pivotal scoring opportunities while Stanford was able to tack on four more goals before games end.Â

In goal for the Ball State Cardinals was freshman Cali Hymann who earned three saves and now has 23 for her career at BSU.Â

Offensively, Emma van Hal registered two shot attempts and one shot on goal.Â

The Ball State field hockey team continues its three-game series in the Golden State when it travels to UC Davis Friday for a 3 pm ET start on ESPN+.Â
