The Cardinals (1-2) beat Eastern Illinois 4-0 last Sunday afternoon behind a pair of goals by Addie Chester and one each from Tori Monaco and Emily Roper. The winning decision was the first for first-year head coach Andy Stoots with the Cardinals.
IU Indy (1-3) is also in its first season under a new head coach in Angela Berry White. The Jaguars won 3-0 at Indiana State on Wednesday night after a trio of setbacks to begin the year.
The Jaguars generate opportunities to the extent of ranking second in the Horizon League in both corner kicks (6.25 per game) and shots (16.25 per game). Freshman forward Anika Guenther is second in the conference in shots per game (3.25).
Ball State will next return for a home match for the first time in three weeks with a match against Butler at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7 at the Briner Sports Complex. There will be a pregame Senior Day recognition on the field.
FIRST WIN FOR STOOTS: Ball State's 4-0 win last Sunday at Eastern Illinois was the first for head coach Andy Stoots leading the team.
The head man comes to Muncie after most recently serving as the women's soccer associate head coach for four seasons at Missouri.
Other stops as an assistant coach on his resume include Louisville, Minnesota, Samford, Belmont, East Tennessee State and Troy.
CHESTER CHURNING OUT GOALS: Senior Addie Chester scored twice Sunday, including the game-winner in the 25th minute, and tallied an assist on her way to a Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor.
The Muncie native improved her Ball State career totals to 13 goals, nine assists and 35 points with the big day. Chester is T-11th, T-16th and 11th in those categories, respectively, in school history.
CALDWELL CAREER MILESTONE LOOKOUT: Senior forward Delaney Caldwell recorded an assist in the season opener vs Purdue on Aug. 17 and is within striking distance of setting a program record in helpers.
Caldwell is three assists away from tying Ehren Reagor's program record of 18 in a career, while she is three points and four goals away from cracking the Top 5 in those career categories as well.
JENKINS HOLDING DOWN THE GOAL: Graduate student Abby Jenkins hasn't allowed a goal in the last two matches, earning the win on Sunday at EIU.
The Fishers, Ind., product has seven saves in 135 minutes so far this year while sporting a .778 save percentage.
SCORING IN BUNCHES: Ball State enters the weekend second in the MAC in goals per game at 2.0, which is behind only Kent State's 2.25 scores per game.
KEEP IT CLEAN: The Cardinals are the only team in the league yet to have received a yellow card so far this season.
