Golf Alums Steger and Wiseman Carry Ball State Flag in Upcoming PGA Championship

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Former Ball State men's golfers Eric Steger and Timothy Wiseman both finished among the top twenty golfers at this week's PGA Professionals Championship, to earn at spot in the upcoming PGA Championship, May 15-18 at Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club in Charlotte, N.C.
Steger, a 2011 graduate and two-time all-league performer in the Mid-American Conference, is a member of the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame and the current golf pro at Pebble Brook Golf Club in Noblesville. Wiseman, a 2019 Ball State grad, was an All-MAC selection as a senior and is the pro at Old Capital Golf Club in Corydon.Â
Steger and Wiseman played in the PGA Professionals Championship in Port St. Lucie, Florida, among four different Ball State alums who had sights on earning their spot in the PGA Championship. Patrick Wilkes-Krier ('06) and Jamie Broce ('99) finished 24th and 28th, respectively, both within two strokes of the cut.
Ball State coach Mike Fleck, who coached all four pros who participated in the event, will be in Charlotte for the PGA Championship.
"What an incredible day for Ball State golf!," exclaimed Fleck. "To get to watch four of our alums battle for a spot inside the top 20 and a trip to the PGA Championship on the line was exciting and nerve-wracking. Eric, Timothy, Patrick and Jamie all represented us well and competed hard all the way to the end.
Â
"And wow! ... To have two Ball State Cardinals in the upcoming PGA Championship at Quail Hollow seems unreal. Both Eric and Timothy finished inside the top 20 out of 312 professionals from all over the United States. Seeing Wiseman sink a putt on the last hole to claim one of the spots was awesome, and you could feel what that moment meant to him and has dad, who was on the bag with him.Â
Â
"Then, to see the fight and determination from Steger to get the job done down the stretch, on a day that was a grind for him, was joyful and emotional. Also, because his dad, Scott, another Ball State golf alum, was there by his side to steady the ship and get him across that finish line.
Â
"This is a huge moment for our program and Ball State alumni all over the country to get to watch two of our players competing in the next Major Championship. I am looking forward to being in Charlotte to cheer them on in a couple of weeks."
