Purdue (30-21, 10-17 Big Ten) took Saturday's game at Indiana 5-1 but fell Friday and Sunday to drop the rivalry series. The Boilermakers won 14-4 against the Cardinals last Tuesday in West Lafayette in the first meeting between the two teams this year.
Max Kalk hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth inning of that weekday night game at Alexander Field, to tie the score at 4-4. Ty Davis hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning to put the Cardinals on the board first in the contest, and Ball State has now scored in the first inning in five straight games.
Ball State won 6-0 on March 19, 2019 the most recent time the Purdue baseball team played in Muncie.
The Boilermakers are in their sixth season under head coach Greg Goff. Purdue went 33-24 (13-11) in 2024 to finish sixth in the final Big Ten regular season standings.
Purdue is fourth nationally in getting hit by pitches (129) while ranking second in the Big Ten in stolen bases (90). The Boilers are eighth in the 17-team league in scoring (7.7 runs per game) and ninth in ERA (5.55).
Senior infielder Logan Sutter ranks at or near the top of the conference standings in doubles (21, No. 1 in the Big Ten, No. 11 in NCAA Division I), batting average (.375, No. 2 in the Big Ten), home runs (14, No. 10), RBI (61, No. 4), slugging percentage (.717, No. 3), and total bases (132, No. 5).
