Nettles Shines on Cardinals' Two-Meet Week
April 19, 2025 | Track & Field
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – It was a big week for Ball State track and field with competitors representing out at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California and back in Terre Haute, Indiana for the Gibson Invitational.Â
Shelby Christman kick-started the Cardinals' week on Wednesday morning when she competed in the 10,000-meter run at Azusa Pacific University. In her first 10k race as a Ball State athlete, Christman finished in an impressive time of 36:11.49.Â
Meanwhile, multis athletes Kenli Nettles and Kendra Keesling began their first heptathlon of the season Thursday morning at Indiana State. Nettles immediately got off to a strong start, finishing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and first in the high jump to take the lead. She marked two personal bests, a throw of 11.51-meters in the shot put and a finish of 24.65 in the 200-meter dash, to maintain her lead over the field. Closing the two-day competition on Friday, Nettles finished second in the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run, winning the heptathlon with a new personal best score of 5,517 points. Her new score is over 300 points better than her previous best and has catapulted her into the Ball State record book where she now holds the third highest event score in program history.Â
Also coming away with a win on Friday was thrower, Sydney Miller. Miller won the discus throw with a mark of 45.65 meters, a new PR. Â
Under rainy and stormy conditions on Saturday, Brooklyn Taylor continued adding to the Cardinals' list of personal bests on the weekend. Taylor threw nearly three meters farther than her previous best mark in the hammer throw, recording a distance of 44.48 meters.Â
Looking ahead, Ball State track and field will now begin preparing for next weekend's trip to Orlando, Florida for the Knights Invitational. Competition will start on Friday, April 25 at the UCF Track and Field Complex.Â
