MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team scored in each of the first six innings on its way to a 14-4 win against Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon at Shebek Stadium.
The Cardinals (26-11, 13-2 Mid-American Conference) secured the series sweep of the Huskies (12-22, 3-12 MAC) thanks to an offense led by Blake Bevis, who hit two home runs, and Nick Husovsky, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI.
Ball State got on the board first with three tallies in the opening frame on a two-run homer from Husovsky and a solo shot by Bevis to take the early 3-0 lead. After the visitors scored once in the top half of the second inning, Alex Richter doubled in Gavin Balius to put the Cardinals in front 4-1 at the end of the bottom half of the frame.
Leading 5-1 entering the fourth following an RBI grounder by Balius in the third, the hosts scored four times on run-scoring doubles by Husovsky and Garrett Arnold and a two-run home run from Bevis to extend the advantage to 9-1 after the fourth.
