
Field Hockey Falls in Overtime Against Big Ten Foe Michigan State

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team fell to Michigan State 2-1 in its third overtime game of the season. With Sunday's loss, the Cardinals fall to 1-7 on the season while the Spartans improve to 5-4.

Grace Clokie scored her second career goal early on in the contest. It was at the 8:58 mark in the first stanza when Emma van Hal and Nadine Loeps found Clokie for the score.Â

After that, it was a defensive battle between the Cardinals and the Spartans with Ball State running the show. BSU held onto its early 1-0 edge for 57 minutes until Michigan State capitalized on a penalty corner with less than three minutes remaining to send the contest into overtime.Â

Neither team scored in the first OT. Lilian Knorr with about two minutes shaved off the clock in the second overtime scored for the Spartans unassisted to give Michigan State the victory.Â

All-in-all the Cardinals played well including a stellar performance from graduate goalkeeper Hannah Johnston who compiled 12 saves while facing 17 penalty corners to bring her career save total to 418.Â

The Ball State field hockey team returns to the Briner Sports Complex Friday, Oct. 4 when it welcomes Longwood University to Muncie. The game is slated to begin at noon.Â
