Late Rally Lifts Softball to Sunday Win at Buffalo
April 07, 2024 | Softball
BUFFALO, New York - - The Ball State softball team picked up its second Mid-American Conference series win of the season Sunday afternoon courtesy of a 7-1 victory over Buffalo at Nan Harvey Field.
Â
After splitting Saturday's doubleheader, the Cardinals (17-21; 4-8 MAC) once again rallied to top the Bulls (12-20; 4-7 MAC) to take the series.
Â
Unlike the first two games of the series, Buffalo would score the first run Sunday, successfully pulling off a double steal with two outs and runners at first and third in the bottom of the second. That was the only run Ball State senior starting pitcher Francys King would allow, however, as she picked up her second win of the weekend by limiting the Bulls to six hits and one run over her 6.0 innings of work.
Â
The score remained 1-0 until the top of the fifth when redshirt junior third baseman McKayla Timmons tied the score with an RBI single to left. Moments later, a bases loaded sacrifice fly from redshirt sophomore McKenna Mulholland give the Cardinals the lead for good.
Â
Ball State would go on to score one more run in the sixth and four in the seventh to take control of the game.
Â
In a solid relief appearance, sophomore Bridie Murphy would open the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back strikeouts before ending the game three batters later by forcing a popup to short.
Â
