Golfers Join Top-10 Foes at Highly Rated Mason Rudolph Championship
April 05, 2024 | Men's Golf
When the Ball State men's golf team tees off Friday at the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee, the Cardinals will rub shoulders with some of the top teams in the country.
Hosted by No. 3-ranked Vanderbilt, the 13-team championship field also features fifth-ranked Mississippi and ninth-ranked Alabama. Other teams in the competition include Charlotte, Cincinnati, College of Charleston, Furman, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, Northern Illinois, South Alabama and UNC-Wilmington. Eight of the 13 are ranked among the country's top 100 clubs.
"This week provides us an awesome opportunity to compete against the strongest field we've seen all year," said Ball State coach Mike Fleck, in his 26th season leading the Cardinals. "The MRC is an NCAA Regional field with some of the best teams in the country teeing up. The Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club is a championship venue and one we've competed well on over the years. I'm really excited to watch our guys get after it this week and see what we can do!"
The par-71, 7,112-yard track on the South Course at Vanderbilt Legends Club will host 18 holes of first-round action beginning at 9:00 a.m. CT on Friday. Second-round play is on Saturday, with a final round of 18 slated for Sunday. Pairings include three golfers in each group, spread out in 11-minute intervals.
Ball State golfers are paired in the first round with foes from Northern illinois and South Alabama. Braxton Kuntz, fresh off a third-place finish last Monday at the Don Benbow Invitational, golfs in the No. 5 position for Ball State and leads off the Cardinals' contingent at 12:40 p.m. Freshman Alec Cesare, in the No. 4 position, launches at 12:51 p.m. Ali Khan takes flight at 1:02 p.m., and Kash Bellar and Carter Smith, playing at No. 2 and No. 1, respecitively, tee it up at 1:13 and 1:24 p.m. All times in Tennessee this weekend are Central Time.
