Timmons' Seven RBIs Lead Softball Past Georgia State
February 24, 2024 | Softball
ATLANTA, Ga. - - With bases loaded and one out in the ninth inning, Georgia State had no choice but to pitch to Ball State redshirt junior catcher McKayla Timmons.
Â
Timmons did not disappoint, blasting a 2-2 pitch over the fence in left field for her second home run of the day, and first career grand slam, to lift the Cardinals (6-7) to a 9-5 (9) victory over the Panthers (4-11) at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.
Â
It was nearly the same spot Timmons blasted the first pitch she saw in the game for a first-inning two-run bomb. Throw in a sac fly in the top of the fifth and Timmons finished the game with seven RBI.
Â
Ball State's other two runs came off the bat of graduate third baseman Haley Wynn who blasted a solo shot of her own in the third, while adding an RBI single in the fifth.
Â
The effort on offense helped the Cardinals overcome six errors on defense as three of GSU's five runs came across unearned.
Â
Redshirt junior Emma Eubank was able to lock up the win in the circle, throwing the final 4.2 innings without allowing a run and surrendering only three hits. She stranded bases loaded twice, including when she entered the game in relief with one out and bases full of Panthers in the bottom of the fifth.
                                         Â
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Timmons extended her home run streak to four games with two blasts today and now has 22 career home runs which ties for the lead among Ball State's active roster and is tied for 11th in program history.
- Timmons added a sac fly in the third inning for seven RBIs on the day and is now first on the squad with 16 RBIs this season … She also leads the team with 16 runs scored, including her two today.
- Wynn's solo shot in the third inning was the 22nd of her Ball State career, moving her into a tie for 11th on BSU's all-time home run list.
- Senior pinch runner Remington Ross saw her streak of 36 consecutive stolen bases snapped in the eighth when she was caught trying to swipe second.
