February 23, 2024 | Men's Volleyball
QUINCY, Ill. - The Ball State men's volleyball team (12-7, 5-1 MIVA) earned a 3-0 sweep on the road at Quincy (5-6, 1-6 MIVA) Friday night at Pepsi Arena.
Ball State controlled the tempo of the contest in all three frames as the Cardinals motivation continues winning their third-straight Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match. The Cardinals were led offensively tonight by Tinaishe Ndavazocheva with 15 kills while hitting a staggering .636 from the floor off 22 swings. This week's MIVA Offensive Player of the Week Patrick Rogers, turned in an 11-kill performance. The Cardinals' setter Lucas Machado dished out 31 assists for a .451 accuracy.
"I am proud of how our team executed on our side of the net," Ball State head coach Donan Cruz said. "We were dialed in. Our guys have been working hard in training, and we are motivated to give our max effort for one another."
It was clear as day that the Cardinals weren't messing around as Ball State jumped out to a quick 10-5 advantage over the Hawks in the opening set which was capped off by a kill from Ndavazocheva. Ndavazocheva continued to bring his "A" game along with the rest of his teammates pushing BSU'S lead to nine (20-11) after Ndavazocheva served up an ace. The Cardinals went on to take the first set from the Hawks, 25-15.
Ball State came out on fire in the second frame, taking 14 of the first 18 points. The Cardinals dominance continued over the Hawks as Ball State would take the second stanza from Quincy, 25-12. The Cardinals hit .471 from the floor in the second set while also limiting their errors.
The third set was much closer than the other two as Ball State and Quincy went point-for-point with score tied for the sixth time at 12-12. The seesaw match continued midway through the set. Ball State then scored three straight points to go up 18-15 after a kill from Braydon Savitski-Lynde. The Cardinals went on to take the set 25-20 and complete the sweep over the Hawks.
The Ball State men's volleyball team will return home to host Queens University of Charlotte on Friday, March 1 at 7 pm ET in Worthen Arena.
