CHARLESTON, S.C. – In Game 1 of a twin bill at the Swig & Swine Classic on Saturday, Ball State fell 5-0 to 20th-ranked Iowa at Shipyard Park.
Ball State pitchers scattered nine hits over nine innings, but Cardinals hitters faced a stiff assignment against Hawkeyes starter Marcus Morgan who struckout nine and allowed just two hits over 5.2 innings pitched.
Ball State got singles from catcher Hunter Dobbins and third baseman Michael Hallquist, both in the fifth inning, while Iowa scratched for one run in the third inning, three in the fifth, and another in the eighth.
The Cardinals will regroup for Game 2 of today's doubleheader at 4 p.m., against Merrimack College.
The six-team Swig & Swine Classic continues and concludes on Sunday. Ball State meets Michigan State at 9:00 a.m. in their tournament finale.
