
Pair of Runner-Up Finishes Lead Men’s S&D Friday at Miami Invite

OXFORD, Ohio - - Juniors Jacob Siewers and Porter Brovont each earned a runner-up finish Friday evening to lead the men's swimming & diving program on the second day of the Miami Invitational.
Siewers finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:38.04 to fall less than a second shy of his own program record set at last season's Mid-American Conference Championships. Meanwhile, Brovont place second on the three-meter diving board with a score of 304.85,
Back in the pool, the 200 freestyle also saw sophomore Malcolm Slater add his name to the event's top 10 list, placing sixth on the day at 1:39.61 which is seventh in program history.
Siewers was still able to break into the record book in the 200 medley relay, however, as both Ball State's "A" and "B" relays achieved top 10 marks. Senior Ethan Pheifer, sophomore Aidan Biddle, freshman AJ Friend and Siewers placed fourth overall with the fifth-fastest time in program history at 1:29.67.
Senior Michael Burns, freshman Cutter Shipman, junior Mason Young and junior Benjamin Clarkstonfollowed in seventh place with the eight-fastest 200 medley relay in program history at 1:31.05.
Friend would also lead the Cardinals to the finish line in the 100 butterfly with the ninth-fastest effort in program history at 49.46, while swimming leadoff for the third-place 800 freestyle relay which also produced the ninth-best effort in program history at 6:44.95. Friend was joined on the final relay by freshman Dominick Perkowski and senior Michael Mitsynskyy.
The Cardinals also turned in a solid effort in the 100 breaststroke, paced by a third-place time of 55.25 by Biddle. In addition, Burns would tie his own mark for the fourth-fastest in program history at 55.21 in the prelims, while Shipman's prelim time of 56.11 was the sixth-fastest on BSU's individual chart.
Overall, the Cardinals turned in 15 individual top 10 finals finishes on day, raising its meet total to 24.
After two days of competition at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center, the Cardinals are currently third among the three-team field with 577.5 points. Host Miami currently leads the meet at 852.5, followed by Dartmouth (759).
Action in the Miami Invitational concludes Saturday with event prelims at 9:30 a.m. and event finals starting at 4:30 p.m.
