
Tanjuatco Wins Singles Flight at 2024 Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team had a successful showing at the 2024 Hoosier Classic which was held on the campus of Indiana University this weekend.
Isabel Tanjuatco was crowned the Flight 6 singles champion after defeating Lilly Schultz of North Texas on Sunday in a three-set thriller, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Over the three-day weekend Tanjuatco also took down Eastern Michigan's Marta Komar (7-6, 6-4) and Northern Illinois' Irma Budakl(4-6, 6-4, 6-1).
Also in singles action, Annika Planinsek along with Elena Malykh each earned wins over their respective Northern Illinois' opponents on Saturday.
In doubles, Tajnuacto paired up with Sarah Shahbaz on Friday in Flight 1, winning their match over North Texas' Gianna Pielet and Stadfany Nformi, 6-2. The duo also won their doubles competition on Sunday.
In Flight 2, Planinsek alongside Alana Bristow registered a 7-5 victory over host Indiana's Elisabeth Dunce and Nicole Sifuentes by a 7-5 decision on Friday. While the Cardinals' Flight 3 duo of Chloe Brown and Malykh beat EMU's Marta Kumar and Regina Mendez, 6-0. The twosome also was victorious on Sunday over Eastern Michigan's Lara Diaz Zayas and Viki Hazmukova, 6-2.
The Ball State women's tennis team will compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regional next weekend starting on Thursday, October 11 at Middle Tennessee.
