Soccer Hosting Buffalo Sunday for Family Weekend

Bulls Stand at Top of MAC Standings Entering the Matchup
The Ball State soccer team returns from a midweek bye to host Buffalo at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Briner Sports Complex.

The Cardinals (6-4-1, 1-2-1 Mid-American Conference) had their first draw of the year in a scoreless battle against Eastern Michigan last Sunday in Muncie. Ball State's goalkeeper duo of Grace Konopatzki and Abby Jenkins combined for eight saves to keep the Eagles off the board.
Buffalo (8-1-2, 3-1 MAC) beat Northern Illinois 3-0 last Sunday after dropping its first match of the year at Western Michigan 1-0 the previous Thursday. The Bulls' signature win of the year was at No. 7 Pittsburgh on Aug. 22, with the triumph being the program's first-ever over a Top 10 opponent.
Ball State paces the MAC in total points (73) and corner kicks per game (5.73) while ranking second in the league in total assists (27, No. 24 nationally), scoring offense (2.09 goals per game) and fewest fouls per game (8.0).
1-2 PUNCH: The duo of juniors Delaney Caldwell and Addie Chester stand near the top of the MAC and Division I leaderboards in multiple statistics.
Caldwell's three game-winning goals lead the league and are the 20th-most nationally, while her six goals and 17 points are both third in the MAC. Chester joins Caldwell with six goals while her six assists are second on the MAC leaderboard and No. 15 nationally, and her 18 points are second in the conference.
MILESTONE WATCH: Graduate forward Avery Fenchel is three goals away from tying Dee Nocero's career goals program record of 30.
Fenchel's 27 goals are tied with Emily Rein (2005-08) for the second-most in Ball State soccer history.
SCOUTING BUFFALO: The Bulls went 7-5-6 (4-4-3 MAC) last year in head coach Shawn Burke's 10th leading the program. Buffalo was picked fifth in the MAC preseason coaches poll but currently tops the league with its three wins.
Buffalo leads the league and ranks in the Top 20 nationally in save percentage (.915, No. 2), goals against average (.364, No. 5) and shutout percentage (.636, No. 17). The Bulls' +13 goal differential is second-best in the MAC.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lexie Thompson is the league leader in save percentage (.909, No. 4 in NCAA Division I), shutouts (seven, No. 6), goals against average (.364, No. 6) and goalie minutes played (990).
