Field Hockey’s Strong Defensive First Half Not Enough in Loss to JMU
October 27, 2024 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team put on a defensive showdown in the first 30 minutes of action to shutout Mid-American Conference leader James Madison but unfortunately JMU was able to score four goals in the second half earning the 4-0-win Sunday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals kept the game within reach for the first 30 minutes of play as BSU held JMU scoreless while limiting the Dukes to only two penalty corners.
With the game still scoreless after intermission, James Madison's Alice Roeper scored her 11th goal of the season at the 37:18 mark to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead over BSU. JMU would then capitalize off a penalty corner about five minutes later to go up by two goals over the Cardinals.
Ball State did have a few offensive opportunities to possibly knot the contest, but all hope was lost in the final stanza as JMU's Carissa Tambroni found the back of the cage twice ultimately stopping the Cardinals from pulling off a comeback.
Despite the loss, Hannah Johnston turned in another double save performance with 16 to bring her career total to 465.
Prior to today's contest, the Cardinals paid tribute to their three seniors, Nadia Briddell, Maya Guinn and Jenna Wyckoff.
The Ball State field hockey team will close out its Mid-American Conference regular season when it plays at Bellarmine on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 pm ET in Louisville, Ky.
