October 25, 2024 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - Facing a one-goal deficit throughout over 45 minutes of today's 60-minute contest, Ball State's field hockey team (4-11, 3-3- MAC) completed a furious comeback and snatched a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory from Ohio University (5-10, 2-5 MAC) Friday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.Â
Â
Jenna Wyckoff netted the winning goal off the assist from teammate Emma van Hal in the extra session, while van Hal scored the tying goal at the 58-minute mark in the final stanza to send the contest into overtime. It was van Hal's eighth score of the season and Wykcoff's third.Â
Â
After a scoreless opening quarter, the Bobcats struck first just 45 seconds into the second period to take the early 1-0 edge over the Cardinals. Ohio would control the scoring circle for most of today's game until van Hal's tying goal in the fourth.Â
Â
Despite Ohio's early goal, Ball State played strong defensively as the Bobcats were unable to draw not even one penalty corner for the entirety of the game while the Cardinals tallied five corners today.Â
Â
In goal was Hannah Johnston and was awarded today's victory with two saves.Â
