
Men’s Swimming & Diving Picks Up Pair of MVC Weekly Awards

ST. LOUIS - - The Ball State men's swimming & diving program saw another strong weekend of competition rewarded by the Missouri Valley Conference Wednesday with a pair of weekly league awards.
AJ Friend was named the MVC Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week, while junior Porter Brovont was named the MVC Diver of the Week for the first time in his career.
Friend remained undefeated in the 50 freestyle versus league foes, turning in a career-fast time of 21.33 to win the event in last Friday's dual at Miami. Friend, who also won the event in the Oct. 10 dual versus UIC, followed with a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly against the RedHawks with a time of 50.88. He closed the meet with an opening 50 freestyle split of 21.53 to help the Cardinals take second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.96).
Brovont, who is also a two-time career MAC Diver of the Week, turned in a dominating performance on the diving boards in last Friday's dual at Miami. He claimed the top spot on both the 1-meter (267.75) and 3-meter (285.95) boards.
The Ball State men's swimming & diving program, along with the women, return to action Friday when they host the program's annual alumni meet at 6 p.m. in the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
