Graney’s Goal Not Enough in Field Hockey’s Loss to UC Davis

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team lost in the final 15 minutes of action when it fell to UC Davis by a score of 3-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex.
The Cardinals (3-11) held onto a one goal lead over the Aggies (3-10) for the majority of today's contest, but the defense unfortunately slowed down towards the end of the fourth quarter, allowing UC Davis to score three goals in the final stanza to complete the Aggies' come-from-behind victory.
Michaela Graney, after suffering some injuries this season, was able to find the back of the cage for the first time this season. Graney capitalized off a penalty corner to give BSU the 1-0 edge at the 5:28 mark of the opening frame. Emma Hilton along with teammate Paloma Gomez Rengifo were both awarded the assists.
After that, the Cardinals came close to scoring on a few occasions but struggled to connect. The Aggies finally scored their first goal to knot the contest at 1-1 at the 48:54 mark. UC Davis would add two more to increase its goal lead by two.
The Ball State field hockey team returns to Mid-American Conference action Friday when it hosts Ohio University for a 3 pm ET contest at the Briner Sports Complex.
