Cardinals Set for Friday Night Battle at Miami (OH)

The Ball State soccer team plays Miami (OH) at 7 p.m. on Friday in Oxford in a match with Mid-American Conference Tournament implications.

The Cardinals (7-5-2, 2-3-2 MAC) are coming off a 2-1 setback to Ohio in Muncie on Sunday. Ball State got on the board first on an Avery Fenchel goal in the 13th minute, but the visiting Bobcats scored twice in the second half to get the win.
Miami (5-4-5, 1-3-3 MAC) lost 2-0 at Toledo on Sunday after taking a scoreless draw at home against Akron last Thursday. The RedHawks are in a tie for 10th in the conference standings.
Ball State stands in a tie for seventh in the MAC standings with Toledo and looks to get into the conference tournament with only four games remaining in the regular season. The top six in the final regular season standings make the MAC tourney.
Ball State is second in the MAC in assists per game (2.07, No. 32 nationally), total assists (29) and fewest fouls per game (8.0) while ranking third with 1.79 goals per game.
1-2 PUNCH: The duo of juniors Delaney Caldwell and Addie Chester stand near the top of the MAC and Division I leaderboards in multiple statistics.
Chester's seven assists lead the league and are 18th-most nationally, while the duo have three game-winning goals each to top the MAC. Chester also paces the conference in assists per game (0.5, No. 22 in NCAA Division I), and her seven goals are the second-most in the league.
MILESTONE WATCH: Graduate forward Avery Fenchel's goal on Sunday increased her career total to 28, giving her sole possession of the second-most in program history.
Dee Nocero's 30 goals from 2001-04 are the most in Ball State soccer history.
SCOUTING MIAMI (OH): The RedHawks went 8-10-1 (5-6 MAC) last year in head coach Courtney Sirmans' sixth leading the program.
Miami's defense has a .429 shutout percentage (fourth in the MAC) and 1.143 goals against average (eighth). The team's 1.29 goals per game are seventh in the conference.
Redshirt senior forward Taylor Hamlett is second in the MAC in total goals (seven) and goals per game (.54) and third in shots per game (2.85) and yellow cards (four).
