
Friend Named MVC Freshman of the Week

ST. LOUIS - - For his effort in last Saturday's season-opener versus UIC, Ball State freestyle and butterfly specialist AJ Friend has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Freshman of the Week.

Friend shined in his collegiate debut last Saturday versus the Flames, picking up a pair of individual victories as well as teaming up for a relay win. His first collegiate swim was the butterfly leg for the Cardinals' second-place 200 medley relay which clocked in at 1:35.44. He followed with individual wins in the 50 free (21.43) and 100 butterfly (51.38), before swimming lead off for the first-place 400 free relay (3:08.05).

Friend and the Ball State men's swimming & diving program return to action Friday (Oct. 18) with a 3 p.m. showdown at MVC rival Miami (OH).
