January 06, 2024 | Men's Volleyball
PROVO, Utah - Playing on the road is never easy, especially after playing five matches in a span of five days. Unfortunately, Ball State (3-2) played hard but made some mistakes and would fall to No. 9 BYU (0-2) by a score of 3-0 in Smith Fieldhouse.
The match started out as a back-and-forth affair that had the potential for the Cardinals to take a lead over the Cougars. BYU then made a late run in the opening set to go up by four (19-15). The Cougars would end up taking the first frame, 25-19.
Ball State again started the second set strong and would take an 8-7 lead off a Patrick Rogers kill. Both teams continued to trade points but again BYU was able to pull away from the Cardinals which allowed the Cougars to come out on top 25-17.
After that, BYU dominated the final frame to take set three 25-16 and would also earn the sweep over Ball State.
For the game, Rogers led the Cardinals with nine kills while Aaron Hernandez had eight.
The Ball State men's volleyball team returns to Worthen Arena Thursday to host UC San Diego at 7 pm ET.
