January 02, 2024 | Men's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's volleyball team opened its 2024 season with an impressive 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-11) sweep over Wabash College Tuesday night in Worthen Arena.Â
Â
Tonight's victory was an all-around team effort that saw some familiar and new faces on the court. The Cardinals were led offensively by Dyer Ball, Nathan Goh and Trevor Phillips as all three had eight kills apiece. Setter Griffin Satterfield dished out 31 assists.Â
Â
As a team, the Cardinals hit .618 from the floor while limiting the Little Giants defensively to a .029.
Â
Ball State was unstoppable from start to finish in all three sets and Wabash didn't stand a chance as BSU plowed through each frame taking early commanding leads throughout the contest.Â
Â
In the first frame, Ball State built a quick 16-3 cushion which was capped off by a Rodney Wallace kill. After that, Wabash began to warm up scoring six more points before the Cardinals took the opening set by a score of 25-9 off the kill by Braydon Savitski-Lynde.Â
Â
Third-year head coach Donan Cruz started a slightly different lineup in sets two and three, but the Cardinals were able to adjust in both frames. The final set was finished off by a Will Patterson kill to seal tonight's victory.Â
Â
The Ball State men's volleyball team continues its three-game home stand Wednesday when it plays Wabash at 11 am ET and then Thomas More at 2 pm ET in Worthen Arena.Â
