Men's Tennis Tops Butler 5-2 in Dual Opener

INDIANAPOLIS - The Ball State men's tennis team opened its 2024 dual season with a 5-2 victory over Butler Friday afternoon at the Butler Bubble.
After dropping the doubles point, the Cardinals (1-0) came to life in singles, earning wins in five of the six spots.
The toughest match came at No. 1 where junior Nathaniel Webster split tiebreakers versus Butler's Alvaro Huete in the first two sets before dominating the third in a 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-1 victory.
Sophomore Jacks Lancaster also won a tough match versus the Bulldog's Rahulniket Konakanchi in the No. 4 slot, earning a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 match victory. Graduate student Eli Herran also earned a three-set win at No. 5, topping BU's Patrick Joss 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Ball State also received straight set win from graduate student Vince Orlando at No. 3 (6-3; 6-4) and redshirt junior Sajin Smith at No. 6 (6-4, 6-3).
The Ball State men's tennis team returns to action Saturday afternoon when it hosts Eastern Illinois for a 1 p.m. showdown at the Northwest YMCA in Muncie.
