Cardinals Fly to Straight-Set Victory on Volleyball Hardwood

MUNCIE, lnd. – Nathan Goh and Trevor Phillips each pounded 12 kills on Saturday to pace the Ball State men's volleyball team to a three-set triumph over Tusculum University – 25-14, 25-16, 25-15.
No. 13-ranked Ball State (6-2) beat Tusculum for the second straight night at Worthen Arena, and won for the third consecutive evening after downing No. 17 UC San Diego on Thursday. The Cardinals' only blemish through the season's opening weeks has been a pair of road losses at No. 9-ranked BYU.
The Cardinals, over its six victories, have won 18 of 19 total sets.
Goh recorded a career high in kills for the second straight night against Tusculum. He was errorless in 18 attempts, just 24 hours after posting a single error with 11 kills. Phillips had a season high in kills, digs (5) and blocks (2) while committing just three errors out of a team-high 22 attempts. Sophomore setter Griffin Satterfield fueled the Cardinals offense with a career-high 32 assists and a pair of serving aces.
After defeating the Pioneers in four games on Friday, Ball State asserted itself early Saturday with a .387 attack percentage and three blocks as part of a 25-14 win in first set. In the second set, Tusculum led early but the Pioneers' negative attack percentage wasn't enough to hold off Ball State. Tusculum played within a 17-14 deficit in the third set before Ball State won eight of the last nine points.
The Cardinals return to Worthen Arena on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.
