No. 13 Men’s Volleyball Opens Weekend Play with 3-1 Win Over Tusculum

MUNCIE, Ind. - The No. 13 Ball State men's volleyball team (5-2) remained unblemished at home (5-0) after registering a 3-1 defeat over Tusculum (0-2) Friday night in Worthen Arena.
Ball State used a mixture of its reserves and starters tonight with a few lineup changes in each set. The Cardinals prevailed in sets one, three and four but dropped its first set of the season in Worthen Arena after falling to the Pioneers in second frame, 25-19.
The Cardinals began the match by controlling the tempo the majority of the first set and would run away with it by a score of 25-16.
Tusculum regrouped in the second period and would have the upper hand over Ball State the duration of the set. The Cardinals found themselves fighting to stay within reach of the Pioneers but too many hitting mistakes led to the loss of BSU's second set.
BSU opened the third set with a 10-4 cushion after some kills from Ryan Bartz and Nathan Goh. The Cardinals continued to breeze through the frame up until the end when Tusculum made a scoring run of its own. Ball State was able to hold on and take the set, 25-22.
The final period was a team effort by the Cardinals. BSU made some essential plays which helped propel the Cardinals to a 25-15 victory in set four.
For the game, Nathan Goh led the Cardinals with 11 kills while defensively, Peter Zurawski finished with nine defensive digs.
The Ball State men's volleyball team continues its two-matches against Tusculum on Saturday at 6 pm ET in Worthen Arena.
