Knopert’s Goal Not Enough as Field Hockey Falls to New Hampshire
September 03, 2023 | Field Hockey
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ball State field hockey team (0-4) dropped a 3-0 setback to New Hampshire (3-1) Sunday afternoon at Buckeye Varsity Field.
Although the Cardinals turned in a strong performance, it was not enough to fend off the Wildcats who were looking to rebound from a recent loss to Ohio State.
It hasn't been easy for Ball State opening the season with a seven-game road stretch. All but one of the Cardinals losses have been just shy of a goal.
New Hampshire took the early 2-0 edge over Ball State in the first quarter of play scoring a goal at the 3:40 mark and then the Wildcats found the back of the cage again off a penalty stroke.
Ball State played more aggressively offensively after intermission which paid off with a goal from Fleur Knopert in the third period. The goal was Knopert's third of the season and 12th of her career.
The Wildcats then added two more goals, one in the third and one in the fourth to jump out to a 4-1 cushion. The Cardinals were unable to come back despite their efforts the remainder of the contest.
The Ball State field hockey team continues its seven-game road stretch when it plays at Saint Francis Friday at 1 pm ET.
