MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team continues its road heavy season when it travels to Saint Francis University and Lock Haven this weekend.Â
Â
The Cardinals are looking for their first win of the year after four games this season. BSU has suffered some heartbreaking losses as three of the Cardinals four games have been within a goal including one overtime loss.Â
Â
Ball State will face SFU first on Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET before ending the weekend at Lock Haven Sunday at noon.Â
Â
Ball State and Saint Francis last met at the Briner Sports Complex on August 26, 2022, which happened to be second-year head coach Caitlin Walsh's debut at the helm of the Cardinals. That contest resulted in a 2-1 victory for Ball State. Both Fleur Knopert and Maureen Donegan each scored a goal against SFU last season.Â
Â
The Cardinals and the Red Flash have met a total of four times (2017, 2018, 2021 & 2022) with Ball State leading the series, 3-1.Â
Â
On Sunday, Ball State takes on Lock Haven for the first time since the 2021 season. The Cardinals fell to the Eagles on Sept. 3 by a 3-1 decision. The Cardinals' lone win in the four times the two squads have met came on Oct. 21, 1988. That year Ball State defeated Lock Haven, 3-2.Â
Â
After this weekend, Ball State will open Mid-American Conference action Friday, Sept. 15 at Ohio before returning home against Saint Louis Sunday, Sept. 17 at 1 pm ET.
